Understanding your vehicle's Transfer case oil and the importance of its maintenance
The transfer case transfers power from the transmission to the front and rear axles on 4x4 and AWD vehicles. Depending on the vehicle, it may also provide manual or automatic controls for engaging and disengaging one or both axles. Certain models also provide a low-range gear ratio for off-road use. The transfer case oil lubricates the components within the transfer case and helps to dissipate heat. Over time, heat and contaminants can cause transfer case oil to lose the necessary properties. It is recommended to inspect the transfer case housing for any leaks, check its oil level regularly and change the oil at the specified intervals.
